A Rose

This page is dedicated to the memeory of my Great Grandmother, Ezell Hicks Day. I figure that if people can put up memorials to Princess Diana, I can put one up to my Grandmother (which is what I called her.)

Ezell wasn't famous, rich, or powerful, she was a country girl at heart, lived on retirement and social security, and the only power she weilded was the power of her heart. She was a greatly religious woman and rarely missed a service at her church, unless she was desprately ill. She was a great woman.

My Great Grandmother left behind one sister, four children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mattie "Pithy" Hicks, growing up with three brothers and two sisters, all of her siblings have passed but one of her sisters.

Ezell was born on September 24, 1925 in Paulding County, Georgia. She died on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at the age of 74. May she rest in peace.

Read the poem I wrote especially for her . . . Relative Memories

God hath not promised
     Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
     All our lives through;
God hath not promised
     Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
     Peace without pain.

But God hath promised
     Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
     Light for the way.
Grace for the trials,
     Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy
     Undying love . . . .

The poem came from the In Remembrance paper handed out at Ezell's funeral.
