About the Couple

Suwabara Kai is a serious, cocky and impulsive samurai, who devoted his time to baking bread. He grew up not knowing his father. He suffered an attack on his pride after realizing he had been bested and humbled by Azuma's superior croissant. Since then he developed an obsession with defeating Azuma. However he will meet another formidable rival named Monica Adenauer. After losing to Monica, he has come to respect her prowess as a novice baker.

 

Monica Adenauer is a German-American who was born in Germany and moved to the U.S. with her parents in order to escape poverty and pursue their dream of establishing a candy store. She become an accomplished pastry chef and won the international pastry-making competition. She also later become a skilled baker, thanks to her teammate Spencer's tutoring the basics. She had the privilege to have been called "Naked Girl" by Kai. She is fond of candy and is often seen chewing bubble gum.

 

About the Relationship

 

Kai and Monica encountered during the Monaco Cup tournament and at first lacked an interest in each other. They quarreled and competed a lot, but at the end of the tournament, Kai showed a grudging respect for Monica's talent and artistic creativity. Monica, too, expressed a mutual admiration for Kai's originality and ingenuity. Soon, Monica started to have a crush on Kai after he complimented on her hands. Later, they started to work together amicably as partners. Monica's crush has developed even further, when Kai promised to not run away but to raise their unborn child.
