Two gold medals were made especially for Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz in April 1998. People from all across Canada contributed gold and cash donations in order for this project to be a success! The project was organized by Kathy Hayes and Bev Dunlop. In a private ceremony the medals were presented to Shae-Lynn and Victor in Edmonton during the Canadian Stars on Ice tour.
I was honoured to take part in this project through my contribution. In return, I recieved a note of appreciation from the organizers as well as pictures from the ceremony.
It is with heartfelt appreciation that we would like to thank all of those who had generously contributed gold, cash and time to make the two solid gold medallions for Canadian figure skating Dance Champions, Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz. The medallions measured six cm across, weighed close to 3 oz. each and were cast in 14 K gold. A portion of gold from each donation was melted into the final product. Shae-Lynn and Victor stated that they were very honoured to receive these Pride of Canada tributes. It was obvious they were touched by the sentiments of so many Canadians. We wanted to share with you these two photos of the event.
Sincerely, Kathy Hayes, Bev Dunlop (organizers) and Barry Tough (Adamas Goldsmiths)
