Glorified Cabbage Makes about 8 servings 1 medium-size head green cabbage, chopped 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 yellow onions, chopped 3 ribs celery, chopped 1 green bell pepper, chopped 1/2 pint heavy cream 1 stick butter 1 cup bread crumbs Salt and cayenne to taste 1 tablespoon minced parsley 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 pound American or cheddar cheese, grated 1/2 cup bread crumbs Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the cabbage, onions, celery and bell pepper. Cook, stirring often, until soft and golden, about 10 to 15 min. Add the cream, butter, 1 cup of bread crumbs, and 1 cup of the shredded cheese. Stir until the butter is melted. Season with salt and cayenne. Add the parsley and garlic and mix well. Pour the mixture into a large casserole. Sprinkle with cheese and 1/2 cup of bread crumbs, evenly over the top. Bake at 350 degrees until heated through, about 30 minutes.
