Loren's Birth Story
First the fast version: It's a GIRL - Loren Ashley- Monday May 3, 2004 @ 6:50 pm weighing 7 lbs 11 ozs. and at 20.5 inches long.

Now the long....

We left here around 6:30 am into rush hour traffic after 2 hours of my having contractions 5-6 mins apart w/ lots of tightness & pressure below. All I could do was rock them away.

Arrived at hospital around 7:30 and was checked only to learn there was NO change since my thursday ob visit. (3 cm 60% -1) but still having contractions. So I walked for an hour or so when I was checked again I was 3, 80%, -1 w/ a tight bulged bag of water which was casing the tightness & pressure I was feeling. So I gave the go ahead to break the water upon her exam and we did (was about 9:30) Contractions continued and once again I was walking the halls to move things along.

**I was walking for an hour then on the monitor for 20 mins, walking again, monitor etc for most of the time**

Around noon I was put back on the monitor once again and while there my contractions DIED, there was NOTHING the entire time I was on it. Basically while I was walking I was contracting but when I stopped there was nothing. This went on for a while, and as you can guess I was a mess in tears. Here I am at the hospital wanting my baby, wanting a natural birth and my labour has stopped. I was instantly in the fear of having the spiral happen to me with needing pitocin, then an epi, then cesarean, and to make it worse I left my babies *jarod and kaylee* at home w/ a friend who just happened in be visiting from PA that weekend and was nice enough to volunteer to stay an extra night "just in case".
So I walked, talked and joked w/ hubby for a while and then a friend showed up around 2:30 and amazingly my contractions started up more consistently once again. YEAH.. so I'm off walking some more.

Closer to 4:30 the contractions became stronger and were much more consistent... they were roughly 3 mins apart and between an 8 & 10 on the graph printouts.... They doctor checked me and I was effaced and a floppy 6, so much that she said the next contraction would probably push me to 7.

From there on it was as if I were having my 'usual' deliveries Fast and furious. At 6:30 I was ready to push as those contractions went from 2 mins to 1.5 mins apart in NO time at all. So much so that my catch phrase in between contractions was "I want it OUT" as I was recovering and bracing for my next contraction to hit and the doc was asking how I was doing. *made her laugh really*. Just when I was saying I can't take no more... The doc was all set up, I was assisted and coached by my husband and a friend named Chrissy, nurse Melanie and the doc. They asked if I was ready and I remember saying that I can't push I'm too tired but they encouraged me and hubby looked in my eyes to say you want it out... push it out so we can hold it. This is what you have been waiting on.

I waited on the next contraction and pushed like crazy. I was doing triple pushes w/ each contractions instead of the usual double ones and watching in the mirror as I was slowly making progress toward babies' arrival. I pushed and breathed like you would not believe, and I got to where the head was out and they say Okay BREATH.. stop pushing and I plainly remember saying "I CAN'T"... "I Can't" and then splash w/ a plop as I watch the look on the doctors' eyes as the baby flew out and flopped in her hands. "Nice Catch" says the nurse. We all giggled as I breathed my sigh of relaxation to hear the words "It's a GIRL" .. I said Huh?? no it's a boy. The doctor put her on me and covered her up to say It's a Girl and I was in surprise **I really thought it was going to be a boy LOL*** I worked to clean her up as she lay on my belly staring at me w/ her beautiful eyes, long lashes, and bushy eyebrows staring at me. We cuddled during the entire cleanup etc. It was the best feeling I had the entire day.

Her Apgars were 8 & 9, she was happy and alert for quite some time and even nursed before she went for a bath. We couldn't believe the hair on her head or the eyebrow thickness etc. She was beautiful.

The next morning I noticed that she too as the "Suomela Swirl" on the front of her hair line just like Jarod and KayLee *hehe*
