I was extatic to find out that I was finally expecting my 2nd child, it didn't take too long to fall pregnant,I was only 19yrs old. Everything was going great,no problems, apart from my baby being breech, but so was my first, so I wasn't worried. Then the dreadful night when it all happened,it was a cold, dark october morning. I awoke around 6am feeling a bit wet, so I pressumed my water had broke,I jumped out of bed, feeling for the light switch. When I flicked on the light to my horror it wasn't my waters that broke, I was covered in blood & it was getting worse. We phoned for an ambulance & rushed straight to the hospital. An emergency c/section then took place & my baby girl was born. After coming round I was told my baby was seriously ill, she had been vigourosly revived at birth & had been tken to special care unit. I went to be with my baby, she was covered in tubes and wires, but still so perfect,a full term baby. She quickly deteriorated & we were transferred to another hospital, nothing seemed to be working, all her vital organs were shutting down, her heart had already stopped so many times. She had fought all she could, after all the tubes & wires were removed,I got to hold my baby, she died right there in my arms, aged just 42hours. The doctors then told me her death was caused by vasa previa, a rare occurence,we buried our daughter 5 days later, not a day goes by I dont think of her, even 9yrs on. Since my vp experience I have gone on to have 2 more healthy girls, Iwas checked every 2wks & given the colour doppler scans.
