| Jack Robert Harris 19th May 1995 Liverpool Womens Hospital My pregnancy with Jack was quite rough in the first three months, constant sickness etc, but after that I bloomed, glowing skin, glossy hair etc. I kept having a pain in my right hand side when I would either cough or sneeze so at 38 weeks both myself and Jack's dad went to the hospital for an ultra sound to see if they could determine what it was? the sonographer had a look and said she couldnt see anything, Robbie, Jack's dad asked her if she could tell us how big he/she was at the moment, so she said one moment, she measured the circumference of our babies head and did some other measurements, to my shock she said somewhere in the region of 10lbs !! Robbie ofcourse was over the moon, he kept saying thats a strong boy, I thought yes that may be but Im the one who has to get him out lol Anyway the weeks that were left dragged I went over my due date, and eventually at 42 weeks gestation was brought in to be started off, they put prosten gel inside my cervix and I stayed in over night, all night I had cramps but because Id had so many false alarms I didnt know wether or not I was in labour! the following morning I couldnt take the pain anymore and asked one of the midwives for a paracetomol, she said let me check you, to my shock I had dialated to 3cm over night! Robbie just made it as I walked with the midwife to the delivery suite, we got to the room and thats when my contractions just came like blows of thunder, I couldnt take the pain, and there wasnt an aneasthatist for half an hour, I just used the gas and air, I was checked again an hour later and had dialated a further 2cm, but after that for almost 5 hours I hadnt dialated more! the midwife said if I didnt dialate any more within an hour then they would put the drip up (start me off)! which I didnt want as Id been told it hurt really bad as the contractions come fast and fierce. She came back an hour later and when she checked me she looked baffled! Myself and Robbie just looked at each other as if to say whats wrong, she said well my dear you are completely dialated! I had dialated 5cm in an hour lol, finally the pushing part came, and as Id had the epidural I couldnt feel my contractions, I had been pushing for almost an hour, they checked my babies heart beat and said they were worried as it was dropping rapidly, a red light was flashing outside my room, panic and mayhem struck! and the doctor said we need to get this baby out now, but my pushing wasnt helping, he said prepare the operating room for an emergency c-section! I panicked, I just thought please let my baby be ok, a ventouse was brought into the room and the doc said we will try this and if it doesnt work then Im afraid you have to have a c-section, he placed the suction cup on my babies head and pulled as hard as he could, then he said Im going to have to give you an episiotomy, I ended up having over 100 stitches in the end, my babies head was far to big to squeeze through my cervix, without tearing me, my baby eventually came out not breathing, he was blue, I was overcome with emotion and I will never forget the look on Robbies face, our baby lay there lifeless as the staff were trying to resusitate him, there were over 7 people in the room, then the noise we so wanted to here came, he screamed, our beautiful baby son Jack Robert, who weighed a healthy 8lbs 5oz! not the 10lbs which he was supposed to be to my relief, was born into our world x |
