| Evan's Story by: Amy I was 14 when I found out I was going to have my baby. At first it looked pretty promising for the father of my baby and me. But lo and behold, when I was 5 months we broke up. I was devastated. After all, wasn't this the guy I was going to be with forever? Well, about the same time all of this was taking place I found out I was having a boy. I was so excited! That is what I wanted. The dad was excited, too. Although we weren't together, I still kept in contact. It all started August 9. I went in to be induced at 6 a.m. Around 9 a.m. the contractions were coming! HELLO, this hurt very bad! I stayed pretty calm and tried to maintain that, "Im a hero" game face. But after eight hours of excruciating pain and only 2 centimeters dilated, I couldnt do it anymore! I cried, begged and pleaded for drugs, only to hear the nurse say, "It's too soon. Youre only 2 to 3. You cant have anything yet. Yeah, thats real nice! Finally, about an hour later I received some Stadol. If I would have known how much it was going to be a nuisance instead of a relief, I wouldn't have gotten it. Anyway, around 8 p.m. I decided that enough was enough! I had two shots of Stadol. Big mistake. No epidural. I figured I'd lie and tell them that I had to push. I guess I thought they couldnt find out on their own that I was fibbing. After the nurses told me to stop pushing because I was only going to make my cervix swollen, I stopped. Finally after all the drama and me cussing out the nurses, telling everyone not to talk (somehow that made the pain worse), at 12:06 a.m. August 10, 1994, after 17 hours of crazy labor, my not-so-little baby for being 14 was born! Evan Costian T. weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches, with a 14 1/2-inch head circumference. Yes, my baby was here. Everyone in the room was crying: Evan's dad, my sister and my aunt. I was too out of it to do anything except be thankful he was OK and relieved that I had no more pain! From that day on, I said no more kids because it just hurt too much. But you know how it is. We all say things we dont mean! I am 24 now. I am married. Evan sees his dad often. They have a good relationship, and Evan now has a 4-year-old brother named Christian and a 2-year-old sister named Isabella. You can read her story. It is under "Princess Isabella has arrived. I hope to write one for Christian, but as you can tell, I write too much! Thank you for reading our story. I hope it will bless you. |
