| Abbie's Birth Story | ||||||
| My pregnancy with my daughter Abbie was really good, no sickness at all! I thought to myself this is definatly a girl, I dont know why I just knew. My pregnancy flew and no sooner as Id found out I was pregnant I was having my 20 week scan! All was well with the baby and I asked what the sex was, I didnt ask with my first child, Jack because his father,Robbie wouldn't let me, but Abbie was to my new partner Chris and he was really easy going (ok I got my own way ). The sonographer looked and said she could be 98% certain I was having a girl, I was chuffed as I'd always said I would like a boy and then a girl, so got my wish. Then she said oh dear your placenta is very low, she said it was very common in this stage of pregnancy and could move but I had to go back for a further scan at 34 weeks to determine if it had moved or not, the weeks and months rolled by, Id had no bleeding at all so was convinced the placenta had moved, my friend came with me for the scan as Chris was working and couldnt get time off. My doctor performed the scan! which I thought was wierd, after around 20-30 mins she went into the next room and I could hear her talking to someone else, they both came in the room and sat down, I was pooping my pants to put it mildly, my doctor Davinda Roberts who may I add was lovely, said Im sorry sweetheart but you are going to have to stay in hospital, your placenta is low, (placenta pravia) and your babies cord is below her head, which could cause a prolapsed cord, which means death for baby if it does in 95% of cases! I was so upset, but didnt have time to cry because I had to sort out getting Jack looked after and my bags packed, Jacks dad agreed to having Jack, he was made up to be able to spend some quality time with him as it was the school hols, he sees Jack 3-4 times a week anyway but cant get enough of him . I went home, packed my stuff and went into hospital, I stayed there for 2 weeks and had another scan, my placenta had moved, not enough for me to have a natural birth but enough for me to go home! I was so pleased as it gave me time to prepare my baby stuff etc, and I was in the middle of getting a fitted kitchen, the nesting instinct set in lol. My date for my c section was planned for the 7th August, only just over two weeks away, I made the most of my time with Jack, and on the 5th August which was a Sunday I tidied up and went to bed, at around 4am I felt all sticky and wet I thought my waters had broke but when I turned on the light my worst fear came true, it was BLOOD! I went to hospital and they checked my cervix which they said was still closed, they said the blood could of been from a placental abruption, but my babies heart beat was fine so they were going to monitor her and make me wait until Tuesday for my scheduled c section, which I was thrilled about cause Davinda Roberts my doctor was performing it! At my request! I had contractions until the Tuesday morning! eventually myself, Chris and my sister were walked down to the operating room, they waited outside whilst I was sorted out, spinal block etc, Elsie my sister came in as Chris is squeemish, (bloody wimp)lol, It felt wierd, just tugging and pulling but not painful, eventually my beautiful, purple, covered in vernix baby came out lol, she was born a week early and weighed a healthy 7lbs 5oz, we named her Abbie Elizabeth. |
