Welcome to Iowa City Babe Ruth
We hope that you are as excited for the 2001 season to begin as we are. Practices will begin the week of March 26th and games will start April 30th. Regular season games will conclude by July 14th. We will also be playing some games on Saturdays and possibly Sundays this year.
Three years ago, Iowa City Babe Ruth made changes to bring parity within the leagues. We plan to continue with those changes for the current season, as they proved very successful. For the newcomers, we have two leagues - National League and American League. The National League was created as more of a developmental league. All players have the choice of trying out for the American League and National League. If they choose not to try out, they will go into a blind draft for the National League only. All players are encouraged to try out, no matter which league they want to play in, to allow coaches a fair chance of assessing skills and placement. You must attend tryouts to be selected for the American League. Trying out for the American League does not guarantee placement in the American League. Players who played in the American League last year DO NOT have to try-out again, you should be on the same team. National League players who would like to try-out for the American League MUST attend the try-outs.
To be drafted into the American League, a player MUST attend the tryout session on Saturday, March 24th beginning at 10:00 a.m. In case of rain out, tryouts will be held on Sunday, March 25th beginning at 12:00 noon.
As a volunteer organization, we would welcome your assistance as a coach, assistant coach, scorekeeper, concession sales, etc. If you are interested in coaching or would like more information please contact any Babe Ruth Board member. If you would be willing to help in any other area, please make note on the registration form. This year we need several managers for the National League; if you can help please contact Dennis Griffith at 351-3860.
A project is underway to build a new concession stand, storage and press box complex. A separate fund has been set up to collect monies which will be used toward this project. Any donations to this fund will be greatly appreciated. A funding drive is underway, construction has already started.
This year we are hosting the State 13-15 Year Old Tournament July 20-25th. We are in need of families interested in being host families. For more information contact Dan Greenwald at 338-0390 or check the line on the application form.
If you have any questions or concerns during the course of the season, please feel free to talk to your player's coach or contact any Board member. We welcome your feedback and look forward to a successful season.
More new and exciting things to come. Coaches will be informed and also information will appear on the web site - including rosters, schedules and standings.
