Why Roatan? I visited properties in Asia (Thailand, Laos where I lived in the eighties), in Abaco in the Bahamas, in Las Terrenas and the North Coast in the Dominican Republic, in the East and West Coast of Costa Rica, in Bocos del Toro in Panama, in Belize and in Guatemala. I looked for a prime location (easy to resale, high demand), not too far from the States and Europe, a residential area with low crime, a very beautiful white sand beach, a quiet lagoon protected by a coral reef, down a mountain to reduce possible wind damage, walking distance to restaurants and services. Roatan scored high on all my criteria. I am not alone to think this. Check other views on Roatan at the end of this site; you will understand why many people ended their quest in Roatan.
Why West Bay? West Bay is the most famous, the most expensive, and the most protected place in Roatan. The coast between West Bay to West End is a 2 miles "golden coast". Nice houses and resorts are under consruction. There are no high apartments or condominium buildings. The rule is that constructon must be below the top of the trees. The area has very good services and animation around; it is very well protected from hurricanes.
A real prime location
West Bay beach was rated by the National Geographic as one of the top ten beaches in the world. Selective investors such as the Italian Julio Iglesias own properties on the beach, one mile from my lot. The pictures here are 3 years old. Dozens of houses have been built in the area in the last year, they are not appearing on this old picture. The lagoon is very protected, the sea is generally very quiet, a beautiful coral reef barrier runs around 2000 ft from the beach. The water is warm and very quiet; it is a pleasure to swim, day and night. On the hills around, nice houses are under construction, the municipality watches to protect many of the beautiful trees. Very important aspects are the easy resale, security (nice houses all around) and high protection from hurricanes. I am very attentive to hurricane protection. Twice in 10 years in the South Pacific, my roof was lifted and destroyed by hurricanes. The South-West tip of Roatan is naturally protected from hurricanes: the wind and the waves blow from North-North-East; this also explains why the Bay accumulated so much white sand over the centuries. This is a lot I had planned to keep for me In 2003 I bought a 3 acres property in West Bay. I developped it in 11 small lots with access, electrical conduit and water line. I sold 10 lots in 2004 and 2005. I was planning to keep lot 3, one of the best lots, for myself. In 2007 I bought another property to develop in West End.I need funds to develop this new property, this is why I am selling my lot in West Bay.
