| Mummy Mountain is located in the wooded area of the Spring Mountain range. Take US 95 to State Route 157. Turn Left on 157 and turn right onto State Route 158. Travel 5 miles to the North Loop trailhead. Parking is available at the trailhead. The first 2 miles is an easy to follow trail that brings you up the northeast slope via many switchbacks. Eventually you will reach crest and make the descent back down the other side for about 1/3 of a mile. Along this journey you will find Raintree, a giant 3,000 year-old bristlecone pine tree, the oldest living thing in the area. At Raintree there is a sign posting distances for several locations. This sign does not mention to go right to Mummy Springs which is 1/3 a mile. Taking the right trail down to the base of Mummy Spring. |
| The spring emerges above a small cliff that drips down into very small pools that accumulate drinking water for the forest creatures. If you are lucky you may see a deer or a mountain lion drinking from the pool. Traveling up from the spring the trail gets difficult to see. You will be faced with cliffs to maneuver through via a chute. If you are fortunate you can still make out a trail to follow up the mountain, (this is especially true when trying to find the trail coming down). Climbing up the mountain slope you will be near the Mummy's Tummy. Travel northwest along the ridgeline. Cairns will start to be present and a trail will become clear to follow down around the ridgeline to the summit. The trail is narrow as it curves around the steep side of the mountain. Again you will come to several chutes along you trail to climb. Not all chutes will get you to the summit. Nearing the summit you will be climbing a chute with a scree field. About halfway up another chute to the right is present. Go up that chute which will require a short class 3 climb up to a landing. From the landing is a small hike around the cliff face to a wide chute with a scree field up to the summit. The summit is quite a large wide open space. A summit log book is locate in a cairn. |
