| What is a HAVURAH? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Excerpted from The Havurah Guide, produced by the Havurah of South Florida: The word havurah is Hebrew for fellowship. The plural is havurot. We form a havurah because something is lacking in our Jewish lives. Perhaps we lack intensity in Jewish study, Jewish prayer, or Jewish celebration, or Jewish community or Jewish social action. |

| The Havurah At Ithaca College is a small, progressive, non-denomindational Jewish community. Community oriented and diplomatically run, the Havurah strives to promote a dynamic and hands-on approach to Jewish identity building and cultural discussion. This fellowship makes room for the needs of Jewish students on campus that may not feel comfortable in a main-stream religious environment. Everyone, regardless of affiliation, is welcome to join the Havurah for friendship, food, art, music and more. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A Little History: The Havurah was formed in October of 2006 by Julie Berger, Deydra Bordoy, Jeffrey Hellman and Gregory Rothman and quickly grew to include several dozen members. The groups foundations are built upon the principles of the larger international Havurah Movement, as dictated by the National Havurah Committee, the First, Second and Third editions of The Jewish Catalog, Jewish Renewal and post-denominational teachings from similar Jewish, spiritual and environmental circles. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
