Church to host speaker on ‘Understanding Islam’

I don't understand why a church would want to promote tenets of the Islamic faith, even if they are benign and ignore violent and hateful tenets that are equally if not more essential to Islamic beliefs and practices. Would an imam promote the tenets and virtues of the Christian faith in a mosque? Only if he was suicidal. From Straus Newpapers:

Sussex — St. Monica’s Church in Sussex, will present Dr. Christopher S. Taylor, who will speak about “Understanding Islam,” on Monday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m., in the church hall.

With over 1.25 billion followers worldwide, Islam is today the world’s second largest and fastest growing religion. Estimates of the number of American Muslims now range between 2.3 and over 6 million, making Islam increasingly important in the religious life of this country. Taylor’s broad introduction will outline the major tenants of Islamic faith, discuss the ritual practices of Islam, explore aspects of Islamic spirituality, and explain the rich diversity defining this great religious tradition.

Taylor is Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies at Drew University, and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies. He is also the past director of Drew’s Middle East Studies Program. Taylor earned his B.A. in History from the Johns Hopkins University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton. He has previously served as the Acting Executive Director of the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) at the American University in Cairo and on the faculty of Yale University.

He is the author of numerous articles and a recently published book on the veneration of Muslim saints. His current research interests focus on the nature of religious leadership in the modern Muslim world. Dr. Taylor has lived and traveled extensively in various parts of the Middle East. In 1998-99 he served as the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Islamicist-in-Residence at the American Research Center in Egypt.

This program is offered through the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Or call them and mock them for being senseless dhimmies.
