The IBL (Irondale Baseball League) welcomes you to our 52nd season of baseball for youth living in the 621 School District. The IBL and its volunteers annually offer a quality baseball experience to hundreds of youth in our communities. Our goal is to provide a positive baseball learning experience especially for players, volunteer coaches and umpires, as well as for families and spectators.
The IBL offers two baseball programs In-House & 13-15 year old Traveling. Both programs are instructional and designed for youth to learn baseball skills, sportsmanship and have fun. Playing hard, giving your best, and having fun are emphasized. While both programs offer competitive environments, the Traveling program is intended to be more intense and competitive than the In-house program.

IN-HOUSE PROGRAM Grades 3-9
The In-house program is open to youth at all skill levels for grades 3 - 9. In-house teams compete against other IBL teams and teams from Fridley, Roseville, White Bear Lake, Columbia Heights and St. Anthony. The emphasis is on development of skills, positive attitude, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun - not on wins and losses. Your registration fee includes the cost of a baseball shirt and hat, both yours to keep. Team and individual pictures will be taken -- there is no obligation to purchase.
Eligibility: All students who attend school in the 621 School District are welcome to play in the IBL In-house Program. You will play in one of the four following divisions:
3-4, 5-6, 7, 8-9 grades
Registration / Fee: Please register by mail or drop off your registration form at one of the sites listed on the front page. The registration fee for the In-house program is $90 per player ($80 if mailed by February 28th) maximum $180.00 per family. Make checks payable to: Irondale Baseball League. Registration fee can be reduced or waived for those who demonstrate financial need (In-house program ONLY) call Gerald Arel at 763-780-7360 for additional information. Fees do not cover medical or health insurance - play at your own risk.
Registration forms for In-house must be post-marked by March 14, 2008.
(Please note, all late registrations are put on a waiting list and will only be added to a team when there is a coach and there are enough players to form a team.)
Team Formation / Notification: Teams will be formed by your current grade, and elementary school area. Teams usually consist of 11 or 12 players, depending on the number of volunteer coaches. Too few coaches will result in larger team sizes. Your coach will contact you by first week of May. Late registrations – see above.
Coaches: The IBL depends on volunteer coaches. Baseball coaching experience is not a prerequisite; enthusiasm is the best credential to insure a continuing and steadfast commitment to youth baseball. Please consider playing a significant role in your child’s life and in your community by volunteering to coach. With your help we can make it happen. Please contact one of the area directors (questions are welcome) and indicate your preference on the registration. Training will be provided.
A coaches meeting will be scheduled the week of April 13th. Attendance and certification is mandatory for all coaches. Team rosters and equipment will be handed out at this meeting. Another scheduling and training session will be held about April 27th and announced at the meeting held the week of the 13th.
Practices / Games Schedule: Games generally are played Monday through Thursday from mid-May to mid-July, with practices one to two nights per week. There may be a Sunday night game under the lights. Regularly scheduled games will not be planned for Friday or Saturday. All games are played within a radius of twenty minutes from the Mounds View / New Brighton area.
Information and registration forms can be found on the website: www.geocities.com/IBL_Baseball/
TRAVELING PROGRAM 13,14 and 15 year olds
13, 14 and 15 year old teams may be formed, but only IF enough players sign up and coaches volunteer.
This program is designed for players desiring a more competitive baseball experience. Participation in the Traveling program requires more time and commitment than the in-house program; however, you keep most of your weekends as IBL teams only play in 2-3 weekend tournaments. If enough players sign up, members of traveling teams are chosen based on their performance at tryouts, as evaluated and selected by a panel of judges. The traveling teams play 16 – 18 regular season games in the Gopher State Baseball League in the MYAS (for more information, including scheduled events and clinics, log onto www.MYAS.org). Games will be played against teams throughout the greater Twin Cities area.
Tryouts and Registration: each player attending tryouts must turn in a completed registration form, a signed participation waiver and have paid the registration fee. (If not selected for a traveling team, the registration fee will be applied to the In-House program.) If selected for a traveling team, there will be additional fees of about $100 to cover the costs of the league and 2-3 tournaments. Team fund-raising activities are encouraged to help defray the additional costs. The tryout date will be announced a few weeks after the March 14th registration deadline. Players indicating interest in trying out for a traveling team will be contacted by phone.
Registrations must be postmarked by March 14, 2009
The age cut-off for all traveling leagues is May 1st. This means that you must be that age or YOUNGER before May 1st, 2009. Example: to qualify for the 13 year-old team, you MUST be 13 or younger on April 30, 2009.
For questions regarding the traveling teams, call Tom Pomeroy at 763-780-5160.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The IBL is about more than just baseball -- players, coaches and families partake in many community and social events, including:
Food Shelf drive - in May, we collect food during photo night for the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf.
Minnesota Twin's outing - we work with the Minnesota Twin's to
obtain group discount tickets to a game in June that we attend as a league.
This event gives the IBL players an opportunity to walk the field before the
game as well as to sit as a group with fellow teammates.
Recycled
equipment drive -
we collect used baseball bats and equipment in May.
Parades - as a league we have walked in the New Brighton Stockyard
Parade and Mounds View's Festival in the Park Parade in August. These parades
are great fun for the IBL players as interact with parade watchers while
walking and handing out candy.
