The National Society Sons of the American Revolution has certified the following ancestors of Colonel Judson Shook Jr. (SAR National # 117144 – Texas SAR# 4573) as Patriots of the American Revolution; those in blue print had descendants who came to the Bastrop County TX – and green print ancestors offer the prospects of perhaps four more Patriots:

-Francis Kenner – Soldier of NC  *see footnote

-Henry Machen – Sgt. SC

-Margaret Eskridge Kenner – Patriot, fed and housed soldiers

-Midshipman Howson Kenner

-Private Benjamin Boone – NC Militia

-Major William McMahon – Surgeon – Continental Army (4th then 3rd Virginia Regt) – killed in action 6/30/1794 in hand to hand

combat at Ft. Recovery while commander of unit of 140 soldiers (the Americans won and western expansion continued)

-Lt. David Cox – Virginia militia

-John Wilson – soldier NC

-Samuel Potter – Private, NC Soldier

-John Boone – Patriot NC

-Major James Chew – Monongalia Militia at Ft Pitt

-Captain Richard Sadler – provided supplies

-Colonel Edward Wingate – the Brunswick militia

-Colby Chew - soldier

-Peter Miller – Private, Bailys Co-10th Regt-NC – per DAR magazine May 1936

-Henry Burem (1757 NY-1823 Hawkins Co) – tombstone says he was ARW soldier

-Simon Boerum/Burem (1715 NY – Battle of Saratoga?)

-Mary Freeman Burem (1715 Ger – 1819 Hawkins Co) yes, 104 years old –

see “Account of the Boerum Family” by Burge’s in the Library of Congress – also check to see if Mary, as suspected, has a connection to the Battle of Freeman’s Farm in NY – and if her father might be a Patriot of the ARW

*Doris William Wheaton, a few years ago, questioned whether this Francis Kenner is of our direct line so in October of 2002 I asked SAR to reevaluate this certification.  SAR did not respond directly to my request in the form letter received November 4, 2002 – but instead, listed Francis Kenner with the others.  I would be interested in knowing if any of the DAR applicant has qualified our Francis Kenner.
