When students apply to the IB program, a very popular question is, "Will I have time to play a sport?" The answer to that is a whole-hearted yes.
Although it is sometimes a difficult balancing act, many of the students in IB manage to play a varsity sport and still maintain a great grade point average. How is this possible? Through dedication to both their sport of choice and to their schoolwork.
Says Katie Vila (Varsity Cheerleading, Step Ahead All Stars), "You learn to manage your time."
Priorities are also important, you have to figure out what you want, and in the words of Nick Alves (Varsity baseball), "W.I.N.", find out What's Important Now.
According to Devin Bustin (Varsity Lacrosse), "If you need to, take time to finish everything for school first, then go out and play. If not, you'll pay for it later."
It also helps to know that there are other IB students involved in athletics, especially when they are also on your team. In the case of girls water polo, those IB students became the majority of the team. "It is really great that the team is made up of so many IB people, it was like another branch of support between school and home," says Allison Lambert.
Work hard. Play hard. You'll win in the end.
