Sophomores Beware…or Not…
A Commentary
Monica Bowen
For those of you who just completed your sophomore year of Pre-IB and have decided to put your best foot forward and stick with the program (making Junior year your first official year of IB), here's a little advice from someone who recently survived it.
The Condensed Notes of a True IB Student:
This Summer:
- Do all the Summer Reading,
- Research for your Extended Essay,
- Do your CAS.
During the Year:
- Take the classes you like. Make any changes early on so you don't miss too much.
- Get every Syllabus.
- Get Group 4 done before winter break- you will have other assignments to complete.
- Don't procrastinate or at the end of the year you won't be able to move.
- You need all the sleep you can get.
- Read. Practice Writing. An Online Journal is efficient easy practice.
- LISTEN TO LECTURES IN CLASS TO CUT THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU NEED TO RESEARCH IN HALF.
- Sign up for the PSAT in October if you are smart and need money.
- Choose a date to take the SAT and ACT. Avoid May and June because it's smack in the middle of IB exams and Finals.
- Make the Internet your new best friend and research tool. Get familiar with school databases or subscribe to Questia.com.
