representation and guidance. This is the highest title a son of ibeku
can attain. This title is for life.His wife has the title UGOEZE. He is
from the clan of Isieke Ibeku.
Every clan within ibeku has its own Eze but there is only one OGURUBE
for the whole Ibeku. The OGURUBE IBEKU is from Iseke and Isieke
still
has thier own Eze as reflected in the below listings
The seven sub-clans (Egwu Asaa) are a kind of regional outgrowths of
the seven sons of the paterfamilias, the
legendary Ibeku Ugwu Ogurube,
i.e, Ibeku the Great, son of Ogurube.
Each of these Egwu Asaa has its Eze. The regional Ndi Eze are titled
each after the Egwu as follows:-
(i) Attah of Afarata;
(ii) Ede of Emede ;
(iii) Eke of Isieke;
(iv) Egwu-Ukwu of Afaraukwu;
(v) Ofo of Amaoforo
(vi) Otuka of Ndume
(vii) Udi of Ossah.
There have been recent creations by the present Abia State Gorvernor
that allowed more Ndi Eze from all Agwu Assa.The elevations to "Eze "
of various regional heads are to head the newly created autonomous
comunities within each Egwu. For example.there are three autonomous
communities out of AFARA UKWU
[<--click] namely :Isi-Ama,Okwulaga, Ohokobe na Umuokeiyi each with
its Eze now. These new creations have not affected the structure of
Egwu Asaa.
With time, we will be listing all the autonomous groups.
