Oil Pan - Sump System
This oil pan allows engine to be mounted 2" above my Kolb engine mount & collects oil on steep climbouts.  Engine hangs 4" beyond mount. "Full" & "Low" sight glasses are 1qt apart. It has 4qt capacity.
This is the collector pan. Original oil pan was cut away except for flange & 3/4" of wall. The side wall of this piece was later modified to 3/8" all around. Left is rear, up is bottom.
Bottom view of collector pan. Oil drains out of open lip at rear & into tank below.
Top, rear view of collector pan. Open slit drains oil into tank.
Top, rear view of tank that will be welded to collector pan. Return oil line exits right & brace can be seen on left. Stock oil inlet by crank was plugged. The engine's external oil pump inlet will be used.
Top view of tank. Stock oil screen on bottom.  Brace is on left & oil return tube exits through wall on right. Brass fittings are silver soldered.
Here, tank is welded to collector pan.
Welding complete. Oil collects at top, flows down & back & drops into tank, is picked up by screen sump & exits right side port to oil pump inlet on engine block.
Top rear view of finished pan and tank. Top of tank is recessed rearward for flywheel clearance.
