| This is a permanent magnet altenator, usually refered to as a dynamo. It requires no 12V input to work, like a regular altenator. This puts out 20 amps and weighs less than 4 lbs with its regulator & bracket (This saves over 3lbs compared to lightest altenator available). It is off a John Deere mid size tractor (PN AM877557 & $168; /regulator is PN AM101406 $69.) Kabota makes a similar one that is 3/4 lbs lighter & puts out 9 amps. I am told dynnamos always put out full amperage, so go with the smallest one possible. Later I will explore continuous full load issue. |
