The Demand of Polite Society
No matter what anyone says, we all follow rules. They are not always the rules of our governments, religion or profession.
The unwritten rules are the ones that humans follow the most.
How are you?
Im fine.
Five words. The demand of polite society can be defined in five small words.
How are you?
Careful. Do you know what you are asking? Do you realize the risk you are taking?
Most dont consider it.
Im fine.
Those words dont mean what they say ninety percent of the time. Are you really? Or are you hiding something?
How are you?
How many times is that asked every day?
Do you really want to know?
Im fine.
How many times is that answered?
Do you really want to say?
Our society has become robotic. Answering any other way would break the system.
How are you?
Dont throw the system.
Im fine.
Do you think I want to?
How are you?
Im just playing my role.
Im fine.
Youd be uncomfortable if I went off script. Would you even listen to me if I said otherwise?
But sometimes, the question is sincere.
How are you?
I worry about you. Whats going on?
Im fine.
No, Im not. Im anything but. If youre so observant, then you can tell Im not fine.
How are you?
You know I care. You know Ill listen. This question isnt out of politeness its out of friendship and true concern.
Im fine.
I dont want to talk about it. Leave me alone.
How are you?
When will you open up?
Im fine.
When this is not going to just be a routine anymore.
The demand of polite society. It doesnt open doors for people
It builds a wall between them.
How are we?
We are not fine.
