THE LEGACY OF JEBEL
Prior to his untimely martyrdon Jebel had been working on the Circles
and Degrees of the Orders the Ancient Priory of Sard. He insisted that
these degrees do not depend on skill levels necessarily.
He attempted to make comparisons between skills and grades though but
left this task unfinished and we have elected to forgo any comparisons
which might prove misleading.
Jebel was a firm believer in the Law, he hestitated to revere it as
Divine Writ, and yet, even so refused to regard the True Law as
Man-made. Jebel believed in a Natural Law, a Law proclaimed by Life,
and in Love with Liberty. It always, remained for him an Enlightened
Law & throughout history he found philosophers who had summed it up
similarly & thus in the following variations:
"Love, & do thy will" - thus one of the earliest
of them had advocated. Centuries later, another declared, in
over-simplification, merely - "Do what thou wilt"; & he had now
proclaimed it Law. Another
five centuries or so on and a third prophet arose and pronounced the
Law thus, saying:- "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
Love is the Law, love under will." But this third had become notorious
through the rumours that he allied himself with the Black Knights of
Zamorak
Hardly a half century later, a new group, yet with the most ancient of
roots arose, its influence soon circling the globe, and they,
poetically reformed the Law, stating: "An ye harm none, do what thou
will."
This last is the Law of our Clan, it is in essence, a natural law,
redefined by mankind...but the paradox, which Salh recognized early was
this, namely that life was a struggle, survival demanded a large
measure of harm & "ye harm none,...", rather than being law,
becomes an Ideal - in many ways, an Idol also.
Hence Salh found it a practical Necessity, whilst upholding the Ideal
of Jebel, to nevertheless act within the strictures of the third
definition also. He never insisted that others, here, should follow his
example, but maintained that the Kin as a whole should make known and
respect all the variations, & that the individual member be at
liberty, free to choose his or her own path, or definition.
Love & Will, these are to be the two pillars upholding the roof of
our Great Hall - the two pillars moreover which support the crossbeam
wheron sits the Ideal, the Law itself.
OUR CLAN NAME
Salh-i-Tariq, is of course,
(as are we all), one of the Immortals, the McJiff of the Clan McJiff.
He is however not the first of the McJiffs - to find out more
