Diary

Week Sixteen

Week Sixteen in Brief!

As I haven`t had much time to write up the diary, here`s a little bit of what happened recently!

Friday, 29th October

Played Goldie Lookin Chain and the Streets to my English class this morning. They were not impressed!

Watched the video of the Eisteddfod folk dancing in the evening at San David. Hilarious stuff - have to get a copy to go home with me!

Went to a party at the Student Union later on in the night and drank a bit too much...but then you can`t really argue with 20p a pint, can you?!

After watching a bloke give us a run-through of every guitar song he could think of, we went on to El Cuervo and then went home as the sun came up.

Saturday, 30th October

Woke up late for obvious reasons and went for a wander around town, checked the football results (Barry won).

Youth festival weekend, so lots of different activities - my personal favourite being the ones on the main street who would go and dance in the middle of the road when the lights went red while some bloke next to them was doing some sort of fire juggling act.

Travelled overnight to Esquel on the bus with a trashy film for accompaniment.

Sunday, 31st October

Got to Esquel and La Posada early in the morning (just before 7) and went to sleep until mid-afternoon, where I got up and found it was siesta time..on a Sunday. Not the best time to want to do anything!

Ran into Welsh author Gareth Miles and his wife on the street and was told that there was a folk dancing practice session later in the night - so I went along to that and had a bit of a dance, before having a pizza for tea.

Monday, 1st November

Introduced myself to the new/returning Welsh teacher in the Andes, Hazel, and went with her to the classes in Trevelin, where I spent much of the day assisting in the teaching of the little ns.

Went back to Esquel later in the night for dinner with Hazel and a number of Welsh visitors to El Barra, one of the restaurants in town with a Welsh language food menu!

Tuesday, 2nd November

Welsh lessons in Esquel all day, with Robert Owen Jones from Cardiff also being there, analysing the classes.

Went out for dinner with Hazel to El Viejo Obelisco in the night, somewhere else with a Welsh menu.

Wednesday, 3rd November

My last day in Trevelin...for the time being at least.

Aside from helping out in the lessons again, I went over to Casa de Te Nain Maggie for afternoon helpings of cake and to buy some tat that looks Welsh with "Trevelin" written on it. You knows what you`re getting for Xmas presents, hey?!

Back to Esquel for dinner with ROJ and Hazel in El Barra, with its pretty Welsh menu.

Thursday, 4th November

And now my last day in Esquel!

More Welsh lessons, some wandering around and taking photos - the snowman looks silly in Spring!

Went and booked myself some holidays - Bariloche for the weekend and then off to Mar Del Plata for a few days in a fortnight. Hope it`s sunny there!

Paid up and ready to head to Bariloche in the morning!
