Gordon comes from the southern suburbs of Sydney, but ministered in the north, southeast and west of Sydney. He was Rector of Malabar from '84-'90. Prior to this he studied history and social work at the University of Sydney,
did youth work, and undertook theological study at Moore Theological
College.
Gordon came to Ridley following doctoral studies at Fuller Seminary, California, on a Trinitarian Theology of Vocation. During his time at Fuller he was sent on a short-term assignment to teach Russian theological students in St Petersburg.

Everyday ethics, especially the theology of work, lay ministries and recent
church history.
