Naked - One Step Backwards - Overground

Overground have put out quite a lot of Anarcho lately, with the fine 4 volume "Anti" compilations and also stuff by the likes of Icon AD and the Disrupters.  This colletions of Naked's finest moments ranks up there with the best of them.  Based in Kent but recording for Dick Subhuman's Bluurg label, they were slightly removed from the London Anarcho scene but all the better for that.

Starting in around 79 with a spidery Wire type sound, instead of developing into Crass-soundalikes they progressed with a catchy but firey mix of the more fierce Post Punk bands (a bit similar to Killing Joke and UK Decay), but always retaining their own identity.  There's a pleasing depth and lack of formula here and it's just a shame Naked never really got a chance at the time because with they could have been a very important band.  Still we're left with this fine reminder of their work.  PS I know a US Punk who used to be into Oi/UK82 who's having his mind blown by these Overground releases!!  He can't wait to hear this.

Outcasts - The Punk Singles Collection - Anagram

This does exactly what it says on the tin, a complete collection of all the a and b sides through the Outcasts half a decade of the recording.  Though they never made the breakthrough like SLF there is plenty to admire here, from their early anthems like "Just Another Teenage Rebel" to their later approach which included hints of Rockabillly and Glam (a good cover of Sweet's "Angel Face"), it's a shame that they didn't carry on because "Seven Deadly sins" though quite commercial had some bite to it too.
