Monday 9 Cross bridge from Avignon to Villeneuve-les-Avignon. Climb up to chateau. Cross bridge back again.
Tuesday 10 Queen Mother�s funeral. God bless her. Go to small town of St Remy. Beautiful countryside. See The Stingles, a band which play half Sting, half Beatles in English pub. Liverpool stuffed by Bayer Leverkusen in the European cup on television. Two English girls flaunt breasts. They need cups more than Liverpool do anyway, I think to myself.
Wednesday 11 Visit Aix-en-Provence. Walk a very long way to Mont Ste Victoire, famous in Cezanne paintings. Hike up mountain. Rains. Run down mountain to try to catch last bus. French family in Renault give me lift back to Aix. Due to beard he looks like barmy French communist party leader Robert Hue but it isn�t him. Tells me Britain should forget the Queen and embrace Europe. I nod. Come back via Marseille, and dip fingers, but no more, in Mediterranean.
Thursday 12 Visit Arles. Rains. Wait in Nimes airport for six hours without food. Fly home. |
