Sunday 3rd May 2009 - Eskdale Round

The walk in the lakes proved to be very demanding and strenuous. We missed the first part of the route but we made the round. We set off at 8.30am and we did not come back until 8pm!! That was nearly 12 hours walking covering 15 miles and 8 summits out of about possible 13 summits. the summits were Scafell Pike, Broad Crag, III Crag, Esk Pike, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags. The weather stayed mostly dry with 2 short spells of hail.

I would like to congratulate every member who took part in this very hard-work walking. The 8 members were Ian Funnell, Ian Cochrane, Mark Oakley, Sarah Ellis, Angela Harrison, Angela Spence, Christine and Steve Rostron. They were tough walkers and I was very pleased that all arrived safely back to their cars.

Next year, Ian Cochrane will lead the walk and we will try set off walking a bit more early in the morning, say at 7am.
