Omatarian Chess
On the Imperial planet of Omataria, the game of chessman was modified from the original Matharan game to please the Emperor. This has been the foundational game from all modern games of chess.
- Game board= 8x8 checkered squares (Note that modern games are of different sizes, most from 4x4 to 12x12)
- Number of pieces per player= Usually 16
- Objective= Capture the opponent's King/Emperor/Regent
- Gameplay= Certain pieces are chosen to make one's own army. Certain pieces must be chosen by default. Pieces move according to set rules. When one piece encounters an enemy piece, the enemy piece is captured and removed from the board. The King/Emperor/Regent must be captured to win a standard game.
- Pieces=
1. Footman (Pawn/soldier) - Most common piece. Moves forward one space, except when from it's starting position, in which then it can move two spaces forward. It can only attack diagonally, and NOT forward. When it reaches the last row opposite your side, it can be removed from play in order to "unlock" another captured piece.
2. Archer - Basic piece. It can move one space in any direction and attack in any direction.
3. Swordsman - Basic piece. Can only move diagonally forward by one space. Can only attack straight forward by one space.
4. Knight - Can jump over allied pieces. Moves in an "L" shape, two in one direction (non-diagonal), one in a perpendicular direction.
5. Wizard - Moves one space in any direction. May switch places with any allied piece. It may move once per turn, but may switch places twice in one turn. May not switch once and then move, or vice versa. May not switch with the ruler piece and jeopardize it. Cannot capture pieces.
