So we could all give you a standing ovation.

Seriously, though. Yoshi was obviously daring you to warn him. There are three moderators in this forum, and you only gave a warning now? If Yoshi wasn't so annoying, I'd accuse you of bias.

Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, but this thread should be moved to QSF as it deals with board administrative action....

Where did the little spammer go anyway? I am just glad I got my 2 cents in before LL closed the thread.

He was told to stop it at least twice. He didn't stop it. Liz and I discussed the issue and decided that a warning at this point was warrented.

Would you prefer they enforce the rules more strictly? I thought you wanted them to be more moderate.

Don't put words in my mouth. I wanted the moderators to show some good judgement. EE warns a guy for calling someone a jerk during a heated argument. Yoshi posts obvious spam threads over and over again. Defiant gets a warning instantly. Yoshi gets off scot free for weeks.

TL -- two different mods, two different forums dedicated to two totally different things. The Policy was written for the Trek forums specifically, where discussions must be on topic. There is no such thing as on topic discussion in Misc. The standards are slightly different there, and the mods in the forum are more laid back. I thought we should give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and when he proved he was merely a spammer he got a warning. If we gave warnings out for saying something idiotic in misc or starting a pointless thread, there would be a hell of alot more warnings in misc. One again, you guys think you know everything there is to know about the board and how it works. Once again you are sadly mistaken.

Wrong answer.
How many times did Yoshi have to post things like "here's YOSHI" and "everyone else is like ants" and "what is your YOSHI"? Someone else even posted a thread called "This topic is pure spam" and didn't get a warning until they started more threads of the same kind.

Ditto. Haven't seen Yoshi in for some time, though. Maybe the warning scared him.

TL -- The administration will never please you or give you the right answer, so why should we even try?

Seriously, I stand by the answer. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt before handing out warnings. Different mods act differently. We aren't clones. We aren't under mind control. If I warned YOSHI for his first YOSHI thread, then people would be bitching about that. HE didn't post them all in one day. As to the other dude, the 'This Topic is Spam' could have been a statement on spam. It really was spam as later evidenced by the other threads which he *did* get warnings for. Neilson started a thread with a similar topic making a point about spam earlier. Should I have warned Neilson? I don't think so. There are two other mods in that forum besides me, and they didn't think it necessary to warn YOSHI until then either. I told YOSHI that if he started another Yoshi thread I would give him a warning. Then I gave him a warning when he did it again. Did one extra YOSHI thread cause civilization to fall or the BBS to devolve into chaos? No. When giving out warnings, I tend to err on the side of caution. ARe we NAZI's or not? Make up your mind.

You are expecting us to all behave exactly the same and in exactly the manner you think we should act. IT isn't going to happen. EE isn't in the habit of handing out warnings at whim or warning for tiny infractions. He had one lapse in judgement, and everyone is out to lynch him. Overall, this place is run fairly. Like it or not, there are different standards in the Trek forums than in Misc and QSF. Not that you should really care, since you don't go in the Trek forums anyway.

Sometimes being a mod boils down to damned if you do, damned if you don't. Maybe you will stick around long enough to be a mod yourself someday and figure that out.

I won't tell you [b]why you should try but I'll tell you what. Try apologizing. The administration would please me by doing that.
