| Nan, Dorthy Hoey |
| Nan was all about family. Her house was always impecable. There was a place for every thing. Family events were important. Holidays were filled with her cooking. German potaoe salad. Green beans. Turkey, gravey, and candied orange peels. There was always a strawberry cookie jar filled with cookies, and jello and cool whip in the fridge. Nan also sewed. I have the last thing Nan ever sewed. She sewed on the end of a blanket that I sleep with every night. I cherish my memories of her. One of the ones that floored me at the time and I think it stil does is when she asked me to pray for her because she thought God listened to me better than her. I was touched deeply by her belief in me and my closeness to God. I have a basket that now hold my portable altar that was from her when one Christmas I got a baby in a basket. I have no clue what happened to the doll. lol Nan also wanted to be closer with my mom but was confused by her distance in the later years. Mom was upset by the state the business was left in, and in Nan & pop-pop's stubborness to get help. I tried to be the bridge between these people I loved. They never got it resolved in this lifetime. Perhaps another time... Nan and Pop-pop also got to meet Lellyn. We flew home together and Nan was worried I was all alone in Colorado. I wanted them to know that Lellyn loved me and that I was not alone & that I would be cared for. They accepted her with open arms. They kissed her, hugged her and treated her as if she were a Dooley (she reminded them of a dooley girl because of her red hair. The Dooley's are Ginny's kids, their eldest daughter). When we had spent all of our money and still had a couple of days to go we were going to go visit friends and Nan gave Lellyn and I a $20... "Everyone needs a litle mad money." Lellyn now has taken Nan's tradition. A couple of weeks ago she gave me a $5.... a little mad money. Nan lives on in Lellyn now. I am glad she got to meet them both. I have seen both Nan and Pop-pop in my dreams. They live in a realm of love and their old house that I drew. Last time Nan was out shopping with Lellyn & I in the dream world... still being generous... |
