Manea's World of Darkness and Light
A large part of who I am and who I have become is a result of role palying. I was introduced to roleplaying by my ex-husband when we went to a science fiction fantasy convention (otherwise known as a con) in the Shenendoah Valley in Virgina. I had read Anne Rice's vampire novels, and was interested in entering that facinating world of dark gothic vistas. At the con there was a LARP (Live Action Role Play) and I was interested in playing with them. I was a bit intimidated by playing a PC (player character) and asked if I could play a NPC (non-player charcter) who would be under the GM's (game masters) direction. He handed me this character sheet with all of these adjectives that described the character: Alluring, Beguiling, Gorgeous, Seductive
I protested and said:"I am not any of those things!"
He replied,"That's ok, just pretend."

My world was forever changed because I found out that weekend that the other people my character seduced came back to me and to my fiance' saying,"The best part of the weekend was getting seduced by your character."

What I discovered was what makes you sexy or gorgeous has to do with what is going on on the inside of you. If I pretended to be sexy... I was. If I acted gorgeous, I became gorgeous.

I was so amazed by this discovery that I took the game home with me and started running them myself. It changed and touched my world deeply and profoundly. I lost 40lbs & I found self esteem.

I wanted to share the secret. So here it is:

Write up the character, the person you always wanted to be. Practice being him or her in some role playing game (LARPs(live action role playing games) are especially good for this)... explore what it's like to become that person. Take what you find you like and enjoy and bring it into your real life.
