That Dirty Old Man
An Elegy for Leonard Kelly
by IamBoris

His passing was not unexpected
at the age of 103,
but thats not to say his death
was no surprise.
He was as full of life
as anyone Ive ever known,
but now hes gone.

He was the quintessential
dirty old man,
or so we lovingly called him
as he flirted with waitresses
literally a fifth of his age.
But it was all in fun-
as was all his life-
and in that way,
he touched us all,
that dirty old man!

He fought in wars,
and lost friends and brothers
to both the battlefield
and the nursing home,
but through it all,
he persevered,
refusing to let the sorrow
and inevitability of
death defeat him.
So shall we do the same.

We will miss him,
but not mourn him.
He brought us too much
laughter, hope, and joy;
he left us with too much
to live for.
Leonard Kelly may be gone,
but his spirit, his vibrant legacy,
and his gambling debts
will be with us always.

Gone but not forgotten:
Leonard Kelly.
