Me: Before I begin this Chapter I'd like to Thank my friends at the ER all aspects yahoo group for helping me with my research for this chapter, because without them this chapter would have gotten done.
I'd like to dedicate this chapter to Uncle Paul who would have been 50 on the 26th May 2003. "Someone still loves you, someone still cares, someone still whispers your name in their prayers. You’re not just a memory or part of our past, your part of our lives. While our lives last"
Scene 1
Carter and Abby are sitting at the table Carter set up on the roof for their anniversary.
Abby: (Playing with her engagement ring) I can't believe you finally asked me to marry you.
Carter: (Smiling) Me either.
Abby: (Puts the rose down and hits Carter playfully) Hey watch it or else.
Carter: (With a smirk on his face) Or else what.
Abby: (Leans in and kisses Carter on the lips)
Scene 2
Meanwhile down in the ER Frank is at the desk a call comes through the radio.
Frank: (Picks up the receiver) ER County.
Helicopter pilot: We've got a male in his thirty's GSW to the head. We're bringing him and his son in from DuPage County they were out hiking and County is the closest available hospital. 10 minutes out. Medivac over and out.
Frank: Over and out.
Luka: (Walks into the ER) What've we got?
Frank: Medivacs coming in 10 minutes out. Male in his thirty's GSW to the head.
Romano: (Walks over to the desk to check a chart) What's going on down here, Lunch break already?
Luka: (Looks at Romano) No Medivac's bringing in a male in his 30's GSW to the head.
(Luka walks off to meet the Helicopter on the roof).
Scene 3
Carter and Abby are still on the roof celebrating their anniversary.
Carter: You know this is where I fell in love with you.
Abby: (Smiling) really and when was this?
(Carter's about to answer Abby when everything on the table gets blown off by the wind of the helicopter landing)
Carter: (Standing up) we'd better get out of here.
Abby: (Standing up too) Here comes Luka.
Luka: (Runs over to the helicopter that has just landed on the roof) Can you two give me a hand?
Romano: (Runs up behind Luka and looks at the helicopter with a worried look on his face) I've got it.
Luka: Are you sure?
Romano: Yeah lets get this patient out of here. Abby takes his son to the TV room.
Abby: (Picking up the little boy from the sit in the helicopter) I'm Abby. What's your name?
Joey: (Looking Scared) Joey Brown. Is my Dad going to be all right?
Abby: We're going to try and help him. You did a very good job calling 911.
(Romano, Carter and Luka race Mr. Brown down to the ER on a gurney and Abby carries Joey into the ER)
Scene 4
A policeman came into the ER and walk over to the desk.
Constable Jones: I'm Constable Jones. I just got new my partner was brought into the ER he was shot in the head.
Frank: (Looks up from the Computer) Mr. Brown? He's a cop?
Constable Jones: Yeah can I see him?
Frank: The doctors are working on him. Have a sit and I'll see what I can find out.
(Frank walks off to find some more about Mr. Brown and Constable Jones goes and sits down in chairs)
Scene 5
Romano, Luka, Carter and Malik are in Trauma trying to stabilize Mr. Brown.
Romano: What are his stats like?
Malik: His Stable.
Romano: (Unplugging the ventilator) Let’s get me up to Surgery while we have the change. Bag him.
Luka: (Sees Joey standing at the door) I'll go talk to his son.
(Luka walks out of the room to go talk to Joey and Romano, Carter and Malik wheel Mr. Brown out of the room to take him up to Surgery).
Scene 6
Luka is talking to Joey when Frank comes up to them with Constable Jones.
Frank: This is Constable Jones you were working on his Partner Mr. Brown.
Luka: (Shacks Mr. Jones hand) I'm Dr Kovac. At the moment his stable, he's been taken up to Surgery.
Constable Jones: When can I see him.
Luka: He'll be in Surgery for a while. Frank can you take Joey for a while I want to speak to Constable Jones. Let’s have a sit.
(Frank walks off with Joey and Luka and Constable Jones go and sit down at the back of the chairs in the ER waiting area)
Scene 7
Luka and Constable Jones are sitting in chairs talking
Luka: Joey says his father shot himself in the head today. Has he been under any added pressure lately?
Constable Jones: (Looking Sad) Yeah his Wife and little girl were killed a few months ago by an escape convict that Brown had put inside. He blamed himself and he started drinking so the boss suspended him until he got his life back together. I just can't understand why he'd want to shot himself.
Luka: (Says quietly to himself) I can.
Scene 8
Romano, Elizabeth and Shirley are operating on Mr. Brown in OR 2Romano: He's crashing charge the paddles.
Elizabeth: We've been working on him for over 2 hours. The bullets gone through his brain there no way we can save him.
Romano: (shacking his head and pulling his gloves off) Time of death 16:20
Elizabeth: I'll go find his family. (Goes to walk off then stops when Romano starts talking)
Romano: I'll get Luka to do it. The son seemed to like him. But first Shirley and I will take him down to the morgue so they can clean him up before his son sees him.
(Elizabeth, Romano and Shirley walk wheel Mr. Brown out of the OR)
Scene 9
Carter, Abby and Luka are sitting in the Doctors Lounge together drinking coffee.
Luka: (Looking at Abby's hand so I hear Congratulations are in order. When's the big day.
Carter: We haven't worked that out yet.
Luka: Well there's still time.
Abby: (Looking a bit uncomfortable) So how’s Mr. Brown. I heard he shot himself.
Luka: (Looking sad) Yeah.
Carter: Well we'd better get back to work before Kerry comes in.
(Carter, Abby and Luka stand up and begin to walk out of the Doctors Lounge)
Scene 10
In the background Bridge over troubled waters (Uncle Paul's song) is played. Malik wheels a little boy with one leg in a wheel chair through the ER. Joey is standing in the Hallway and Luka is about to walk up to him but stops and watches as Shirley and Romano wheel Mr. Brown’s body through the ER. Carter is standing behind Abby in the doorway of the Doctors lounge watching Luka. Romano looks at Luka and Shakes his head. A tear rolls down Lukas’s face as he looks at back at Joey watching the little boy with one leg in the wheel chair.
Joey: (Watches the little boy is wheeled past him) And by the grace of God there goes I.
Carter: (Puts his arms around Abby's waist) Do you think he'll be ok.
Abby: (Looking up at Carter then back at Luka) I think he'll be fine.
