“From This Day On”

Chapter 11 - Written by: Heid


Scene 1

Carter and Luka are at the Carter family mansion getting ready for Carter and Abby's wedding when the phone rings.

Carter: (Doing up the buttons on his cuffs and looking over at Luka) Hey, can you get that?

Luka: (Walking over to the phone and picking it up) Hello, Carter residence.

Kerry: I need you to come in

Luka: (A little annoyed) It's Carter's wedding today and I'm the best man.

Kerry: I know what day it is, but we're got multiples rolling up and we need another Doc.

Luka: For how long?

Kerry: Just get in here as soon as you can. (Hangs up the phone)

Luka: (Hangs up the phone and turns around and looks at Carter)

Carter: (Brushing his hair in front of the mirror) Who was that?

Luka: Weaver wants me to come in.

Carter: (Turning around and looking at Luka surprised) Now?

Luka: It shouldn't be for long, I'll meet you there.

Carter: (Turning back around to the mirror) Ok, just make sure your there.

Luka: (Walks out of the room)

Scene 2 Abby, Susan and Maggie are at Carter and Abby's apartment helping Abby get ready for the wedding.

Maggie: (Walking over to Abby carrying a little box) This was my Grandmother's (Opens the box revealing a beautiful blue butterfly on a silver necklace) I wanted to give you this on a special day and I think this is the perfect day. (Hands Abby the necklace)

Abby: (Taking the necklace off Maggie and looking at it, then looking up at Maggie smiling) It's beautiful Mum, thank-you (Hugs Maggie)

Susan: (Walking over to Abby with Abby dress and smiling) You'd better start getting dressed. You don't want to keep Carter waiting.

Abby: (Taking the dress off Susan) this is beginning to feel so real now.

Susan: (Smiling at Abby) You could always skip this whole marriage thing and hang out with us single girls in Vegas.

Abby: (Laughing and turning around to walk off) Nah I think I'll get married. (Goes to pick up the phone that has just started to ring)

Maggie: (Racing over to the phone) I'll get it.

Abby: (Looking over at Maggie, then picking up the receiver of the phone) It's ok I've got it.

Maggie: It could be John.

Susan: (Shaking her head) I thought the groom just couldn't see the bride, not, not speak to the bride too.

Abby: (Shrugs her shoulders and speaks into the receiver) Hello

Carter: (Talking into the receiver of his phone) Hey beautiful.

Abby: (Smiling) Hey John, how are things going over there

Carter: Something came up.

Abby: (Looking worried) What's going on John.

Maggie: (Watching Abby on the phone) I knew she shouldn't have answered that phone.

Susan: (Looks over at Maggie then at Abby) It's probably just a problem with the cars or something.

Carter: Kerry called Luka into work, but he should be should be there for the wedding. I'm going to meet him there.

Abby: Is that all, you scared me John. I thought you were calling it off.

Carter: (Smiling) I'd never do that, I love you too much.

Abby: (Smiling) Love you too. (Hangs up the phone)

Scene 3

The limo with Susan, Maggie and Abby has just pulled up at the beach, Pratt, Chen, Gallant, Haleh, Weaver, Romano, Elizabeth, Ella, Doug, Carol, Peter, Cleo, Dave, Jerry, Malik, Yosh, Chuny, Luka, Lydia, Lily, Dave, Jack and Eleanor all standing around the beach wearing Semiformal clothes. There is a beautiful stone path alone the beach leading to where the priest is standing and beautiful dried flowers set up alone the path and all around the beach. The driver of the limo gets out of the limo and walks around to Abby's door and opens it for her.

Abby: (Steps out of the limo wearing a beautiful simple white dress that falls just below her knees with thin straps, her hair flowing half in and half out with flowers pinned into the back of her hair and the butterfly necklace Maggie gave her around her neck and bare foot with a silver anklet around her left ankle and looks around at everyone trying to see Carter) Where's John?


Scene 4

Carter is on his way to the wedding in his limo when they get held up in a traffic jam.

Carter: (Opening the door of the limo) I'm going to see what's going on up there. (Gets out of the limo and walks past all the cars stuck in the traffic jam)

Poor man: (Walking with his head down, one hand holding an old hanky over his head which is bleeding, the other hand holding onto the rope that is tied around a white horses neck that his is pulling along next to him and calling out) somebody please help me.

Carter: (Races over to the man and goes to look at his bleeding head) I'm Doctor Carter, can you tell me your name.

Poor man: (Doesn't answer Carter)

Carter: (Looks around) Ok, just stay there I'll be right back. (Runs back to the limo and rings for an Ambulance from the phone in the limo, we only hear Carter's side of the conversation) I need a rig there's a man in his sixties, possible head injury, 75 street, he seems disorientated, how long, thanks (Hangs up the phone and races back to the poor man) They'll be here in five minutes (Puts his arms on the mans back and leads him off the road onto the footpath) Lets stay over here until they get here. (Touches he man's hand that's still holding the old hanky over his bleeding head) Can I have a look?

Poor man: (Takes the hanky off his head, so Carter can look at it)

Carter: (Examining the man's head wound which is bleeding heavily) That looks really deep, your going to need stitches. (Puts the old hanky back over the man's head) hold this here; I'm going to go get the first aid kit from the limo. (Walks back to the limo)

Limo driver: (Standing at the front of the limo with the hood up looking at the engine) I can't seem to get it started again.

Carter: (Shaking his head, opening the front passenger door of the limo and getting the first aid kit out of the glove box) Just keep trying. (Slams the door shut and walks back to the poor man and takes the old hanky off his head) Here let me clean that up for you.

(An Ambulance pulls up next to Carter and the poor man and two Ambulance officers get out of the Ambulance)

Carter: (Looking down the street at the limo driver who is still at the front of the limo with the hood up, yells out) Have you got it started yet.

Limo driver: (Yells back) it might take a while.

Carter: (Looking at his watch and saying quietly to himself) I don't have a while, I'm already late (Looks back over at the Ambulance officers as they lift the gurney with the man lying on it in to the rig)

Poor man: (Looks over at his horse that is now tied up with the rope around a pole) you can take her, if you'd like.

Carter: (Looking back at the limo, then at the old white horse) Are you sure.

Poor man: (Nodding his head) yeah, it's my way of saying thank-you for helping me.

Carter: (Unties the rope from around the pole, swings the rope to the back of the horses neck and mounts onto the horse bare back) Thanks, I'll have him back in a few hours. (Gallops off down the road past all the traffic)

Scene 5

The wedding scene, Abby is waiting with everyone for Carter to arrive at the beach for their wedding.

Abby: (Looking alone the beach sadly) He’s over an hour late, his not coming is he.

Eleanor: (Putting her arms around Abby's shoulders) He'll be here, his just running a little late.

Doug: (Walking over to Luka) Did he have to go anywhere else before he came here.

Luka: (Turning around to Doug) No, I thought he'd be here before me.

Abby: (Turns around and walks slowly away as a tear falls down her face)

Carter: (Comes galloping along the beach on the white horse, wearing a white long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up, Cargo pants and no shoes.

Calls out) Abby wait.

Abby: (Turns around and smiles at Carter)

Carter: (Dismounting the horse and walking over to Abby) Sorry I'm late, accident caused a traffic jam, then the limo wouldn't start and

Abby: (Interrupts Carter by placing her index finger over his lips) I'm just glad your here now.(Smiles at Carter)

Maggie: (Grabbing Abby by the arm and pulling her away from Carter) Lets get this wedding started.

Carter: (Watches Abby walk off with Maggie to the start of the stone path, then turns around and walks up to the top of the stone path to stand in front of the Priest and next to Luka.)

Luka: (Shaking Carter's hand firmly) Glad you finally made it man.

Carter: Thanks.

(Everyone turns around and looks towards the start of the stone path as Hanging by a moment by LifeHouse begins to play in the background and Ella wearing a cute sky blue spring dress begins to walk down the stone path, throwing flower pedals out of a little basket, then Susan begins to walk down the stone path wearing a powder blue dress with thin straps that flows just below her knees with her hair out and a yellow frangipanis pined into the side of her hair, Then Maggie wearing a navy blue straight skirt that goes just below her knees, with a white blouse and a navy blue jacket over the top begins to walk down the stone path with her arms linked with Abby's arm as they walk the stone path slowly side by side, Ella gets to the top of the path and walks over to Elizabeth and stands next to her

Susan gets to the top of the path and steps to the side opposite Luka in front of the Priest, then Abby and Maggie get to the top of the path)

Priest: (Smiling at Abby and Maggie) Who gives this Woman to be married?

Maggie: (Smiling) I do, (Kisses Abby on the cheek and goes over to stand with the others)

Priest: Please face each other, join hands, Both John and Abby have written their own vows.)

Carter: (Smiling at Abby) I've spent my whole life searching for someone to share my life with and from the first day, you walked into my life with those beautiful brown eyes and your smile that can light up the world, I knew you were the one for me. You're my soul mate, the love of my life and my best friend and from this day on I Jonathan Truman Carter promise you Abigail Wycezenski Lockhart with all my heart to love, respect and make you happy for all eternity, in the good times and the bad, in sickness and in health, and whatever other challenges life throws our way. I love you Abby.

Abby: (Smiling back at Carter) I never thought I could be happy truly happy in life and then one day I met you and from the first time ever I looked into those beautiful brown eyes and our hands touched I knew you were the one for me. You're love and kindness has shown me that I can be happy, truly happy in life. You're my soul mate, the love of my life and my best friend and from this day on I Abigail Wycezenski Lockhart promise you Jonathan Truman Carter the third with all my heart to love, respect and make you happy for all eternity, in the good times and the bad, in sickness and in health, and whatever other challengers life throws our way. I love you John.

Priest: (Looking at Luka) The ring please.

Luka: (Takes the ring out of his pocket and hands it to Carter)

Carter: (Takes the ring off Luka and holds it)

Priest: Please place the ring on her ring finger and repeat after me.

Carter: (Gently places the ring on Abby's ring finger)

Priest: With this ring I thee wed.

Carter: With this ring I the wed.

Priest: (Looking at Susan) Now for the other ring.

Susan: (Hands Abby the ring)

Abby: (Takes the ring off Susan)

Priest: Place the ring on his ring finger and repeat after me.

Abby: (Slides the ring onto Carter's ring finger)

Priest: With this ring I thee wed.

Abby: With this ring I thee wed.

Priest: (Placing his hands over Carter and Abby's hands) I bless these rings as a symbol of your love and commitment for each other, what God has joined together may no man put asunder. It is my honor to now pronounce you Husband and Wife. (Looks over at Carter and Smiles) you may kiss your Bride.

(Carter Leans in and his lips meet Abby's as they begin to kiss passionately. Be there with you by Human Nature begins to play as everyone else opens up their little boxes they have being holding during the Ceremony and beautiful little Butterflies are set free from the boxes to fly all around the beach and over the newly Wedded couple)
