| Joshland: An Introduction to Micronationalism | ||||
| What exactly is Joshland? The Holy and Illustrious Kingdom of Joshland is a micronation that, since its declaration of independence , has grown and matured beyond all of its predecessors. It has all the neccesary trappings of any country, including a flag, national symbols, a constitution, and even its own writing system, which shall be explained in greater detail in other sections of a site. However there must be availible an adequate clarification of the term "mirconation", to truly understand the position that the Kingdom holds on the world stage. Micronations There are two widely accepted definitions of the term. A country with a small land area could be considered a micronation. Such examples would be countires like Monaco and San Marino in Europe, Malavi Swaziland and Rwanda in Africa, Singapore in Asia, and several Carribean islands in the Gulf of Mexico. There is also another, more obscure meaning of the word. A micronation can also be an attempt by one, or a group of people, to create his or her own country. Nations in this category are usually one-man to three-man affairs Most countries lay clain to obscure territory, whether it be an underwater island, or a chunk of the Antarctic. Many even consider their respective websites as soveriegn territory. Nevertheless, there are some micronatons that do have serious ambitions when it comes to statehood. The Republic of Talossa (http://www.talossa.com) for instance, is one of the oldest micronations to date. In its 20 year existence, it has grown from the size of a bedroom, to a good percentage of Millwaukee, Wsconsin. Another notable nation, the Aerican Empire (http://www.aericanempire.com) has given itself global recognition, and even has small areas of claimed land around the world. |
