Senior Camp
1 - 7 July 2000

20 young campers and 12 leaders survived the flesh-eating midges of Dalnaglar at the first Senior Mixed Camp (Boys and Girls) to be held by Discovery Camps.

Even the Glen Shee weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants and the camp was hailed as yet another success.

Although most had been before this was the first discovery camp for a few of the campers and leaders.  Despite the usual moans and groans a great week was had as we managed to squeeze in numerous activities and visits.

The Campers:

Laure Brown
Kim Craig
Sharon Devlin
Ian Gallacher
Ian Gormanly
Sean Jordan
Darren Keith
George Lamb
Steven Loftus

Amongst other things the swings at the local playparks proved popular . . . not just with the campers but also the more "Senior" leaders!

"I hope that's not a pillow fight you're having guys"

"No, we're just tidying up our rooms (snigger)"

As well as crafts, indoor games, outdoor activities, water sports (river and pool) it was nice just to sit around from time to time and unwind.

And, of course, love was in the air . . .

Singing proved to be very popular - especially the action songs

But one of the most popular activities seemed to be water sports.  Anything to do with water seemed to be an attraction, including squirting everyone with the water bugs out of the sugar puff boxes!

Alex had everyone baffled with his riddles . . .

With just some old pallets, string and plastic bottles a great engineering project was commenced - the building of a bridge across the local crocodile infested river.

Disaster was averted by the quick-thinking Ian who, without fear or concern for himself rescued several plastic bottles which escaped and began floating down river thus averting a potential ecological catastrophe.  (well you've got to make it sound dramatic!)

Of course, once built it had to be tested.  And we were not short of volunteers for that!

Well thanks to the wonderful planning and engineering the bridge was another successful achievement for discovery camps.
