| Plot: The episode begins with the Bearer explaining to the Char Wallah about the revelation that the Sgt Major is the Father of Gunner Parkins. He explains that the Sgt Major met Parky's mother when she was shopping at "Marky Spence" in Colchester, and after falling for each other at first sight, they headed off to a London Garden called "Covent", where they went to the beautiful Palace of "Locarno Stretham". After this they went too another beautiful garden called "Wimbledon, Come On" where there is a Heavenly enchanted tree called the "Shep Herds Bush" where they fall into each others arms. When the Sgt Major sails for India the next day, he has left behind his Heavenly Issue. Meanwhile the order comes through that all Punkah Wallahs are to be replace by electric fans. Solly and the gand agree to help the Punkah Wallah (as he is the Char Wallah's second wife's fourth cousin's half brother). When the Sgt Major discovers that the Concert Party have re-employed the Punkah Wallah, he tells them to get rid of him and states that only officers can have Punkah Wallahs. The Punkah Wallahs then all go on strike (by withdrawing their strings), and pretty soon they have the support of the Electrical workers who stop all power supply to the camp. A state of emergency is declared, and a note is left for Captain Reynold which says "British Pigs go home!". The situation worsens when Inspector Singh rings to inform the Colonel that the Telephone workers are also on the side of hte Punkah Wallahs and that there is to be a big demonstration as a result. The Colonel decides that the situation must be resolved, and Solly comes up with a plan that would keep everyone happy. His plan involves re-employing the Punkah Wallahs to ride a stationary bicycle, the back wheel of which is connected to a small generator to power the electric fans. Then, to keep the cycling Punkah Wallah cool, he in turn has his own punkah wallah who Punkah's in the more traditional manner. |
