Breif recap:                                   Carlos Jr was not expected at all when I found out I was pregnant again. In Fact it took me a couple of months to warm to the idea i was gonna be a mommie again. But when I heard his lil heartbeat, i fell in love:) My due date was at first a mystery, beng late always was a huge factor. So after my first intial visit with my ob/gyn. They did an internal ultrasound, and i found out Jr was due 10/12/2003. We had a rough couple of months, with severe nausea, and even some early contractions at 17 weeks. But things progressed and as the months went along, things fell into place. We found out it was boy, on the 2nd ultrasound. We were happy we were having another boy!
We had another scare, a 3rd ultrasound at 28 weeks showed some water-like clots in Jr's brain, it was most likely excess water, not drained properly. But our chances for Down syndrom upped by 15% than the regualr 10% for my age range (24). We were extremely worried and later on that week, we underwent a amniocentisis, (a test where they take some of the baby's fluid and test for any genetic defects). We had to wait a grueling week, after 4 days we found out he was fine. No genetic defects. And most importantly, the water clots would disappear at 30 weeks (which they did).

Birth day: 10/6/2003:

On 10/3/03- close to one of my last appointments, my ob/gyn observed that my bp was a lil elevated, and there was some protein in my urine. So after the appointment, she sent me to L&D to run some tests. After all the tests we found out Jr was close to 9 pds!
And we were still 9 days away from my due date! They sent me home after not much dialation and my ob/gyn let me know that if i hadnt gone into labor by Monday, i would be induced Tueday 10/7. Came home and tried to relax, but it was hard cos i was soo uncomfortable, and dropping my mucus plug little by little. Saturday and Sunday were very hard days, not knowing if i was in labor or not. Since 10/3 i was only 2 /3 centimeters dialated, On 10/5 late afternoon, i kept having very strong, but irregualr contractions, they continued on all night. It was a pain! Especially since i was not home, we were celebrating our nephews bday... By 10/11 pm they got progressively strong. We left for the hospital at 12 midnight, by then i was losing it, i was in a lot of pain. When i got to pre L&D i was leaking amniotic fluid. So i was quickly admited. Dr., Lopez-Beechum broke my bag of waters completely 20 min after being admitted, i was 8 centimeters dialated, and was given only stadol for the pain. Which did absolutely NOTHING! I was also given inducement meds which made the contractions unbearable.
Right after the head was delieverd, his shoulders got stuck, the dr looked extremely worried and as a nurse sat down on my tummy, the dr move her inside and flipped one of the baby's shoulder out, and Carlos Jr was delieverd. At 3:33 am, our big boy. 9 lbs, 3 ozs and 21 inches long! They immediately noticed his right sholder limp and he was diagnosed with Erb's palsy:Shoulder Dystocia. The Dr explained, his shoulder wanted to come out at the same time, and got more stuck after eacjhcontraction. And also it had nothing to do with his weight, and 7 lb baby would've gotten stuck as well. A muscle had been pulled while he was taken out of the birth canal.

The labor was short and very painful, and we got a huge scare when the baby wouln't come out. But after they laid his beautiful little body on me, it was all worthwhile, and i was soo ecstatic to have another lil boy to love and cherish and share a part of my heart with.

We spent the next 2 days at the hospital, they ran a million tests on his right arm, the first couple of days were rough, we had to carry him on his rightside and postion his arm next to him when we carried him. We would also have to touch his right hand with his left.  We saw a lot of improvement after 4 days, when he would cry he woulds fling it. And afte being exmained by a specialist. She said he had a very good tone and flex and didn't think it would be very long till he had full use of it. And she was right before he was a month old he was complete use of his right shoulder/hand.

And thats his birthstory:)
