The following rules are intended to help provide an atmosphere that is conducive to professional dialogue. If you have any questions about the rules, please contact the List Manager for clarification and/or explanation. (Contact information can be found at the end of this message)

THE NUMBER ONE RULE, TO BE HEEDED AT ALL TIMES, IS TO RESPECT THE OTHER LISTMEMBERS. In addition, the following conduct is unacceptable on the IAASnet:

  1. submission of materials to the list that the members and the List Manager feels are malicious, unnecessarily abusive, threatening, obscene, harassing, libelous, have reckless disregard for the truth, or that contain ad hominem attacks;
  2. distribution of viruses/Trojans/worms, chain letters, "spam," irrelevant messages, unsolicited advertisements, and/or messages that the List Manager feels simply are irrelevant to the list's stated focus. NOTICE: POST AT YOUR OWN RISK AS YOU ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU SAY! SANCTIONS: At the discretion of the List Manager, violators of these rules will be cautioned and repeat offenders are subject to removal from the list.
  3. distribution of copyrighted materials (this includes the forwarding of messages without permission to the IAASnet from another forum, or from the IAASnet to another forum without permission of the author. Forwarding public announcements such as conference notices, job openings, or "broadcast messages" sent to multiple lists are excusable since they are intended for wide dispersion);

FORUM SURVIVAL TIPS:

The IAASnet is automated. Messages posted to the list are forwarded to every address on the subscription list. PLEASE READ THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! It can be quite annoying for everyone on the list to have their mailbox filled with commands intended for the automated listserver simply because listmembers didn't follow the instructions.

GENERAL RULES & NETIQUETTE

  1. Please do not send large attachment files and/or lengthy messages (i.e. an article for peer review) to the list as this can cause individual computers and even entire systems to crash. If you have such an item that you'd like to share with the listmembers, please send a message to the list to that effect, and then send the file to those who request it.
  2. Additionally, please remember that this list has an international audience, and thus there are listmembers who PAY BY THE MINUTE to access and download their e-mail. Accordingly, please keep your messages as brief as possible--i.e. it is usually not necessary to quote the entire message when replying to another listmember's post.
  3. While we encourage active and lively debate on the IAASnet, please use discretion relative to the frequency with which you post messages to the list. All too often lists can become dominated by a handful of prolific listmembers whose frequent posts muffle the other listmembers and quickly fill up mailboxes--the end result being a list that people avoid.
  4. Please avoid using "vacation notice" style, which generates automated reply to each posting on the IAASnet and may annoy other members.
  5. Avoid using all caps in your posts--IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE YELLING!
  6. Please keep personal conversations just that--personal, and not posted to the entire list.
  7. COPYRIGHT AND LIMIT OF LIABILITY Messages posted to the IAASnet are the copyright of the sender and reflect their own opinion. Messages by the List Administrators similarly reflect their own opinion unless otherwise stated, and are not intended to reflect the views of their respected places of employment.
