P- Provide tools for learning. The tools necessary for learning today are not just a text and a dictionary in the classroom. Much more is necessary. Students as partners have a classroom library available to them if possible. Teacher and student are included in choosing titles for the library as well as developing a system for borrowing and returning. Students have the opportunity to discuss or review books, and how the system is put together. Reference materials are also included and students know how to use the library. Teachers as partners use portfolios as a tool, as well as discussion groups, learning logs, and literature circles. Partners help each other to learn how these tools work successfully. Teachers also have tools such as samples of different genres, other students work, supplies for students use, and intervention for extra help if needed. Students as partners are encouraged to discuss what does and doesnt work as far as tools for meaningful learning.
