Most all of our locals did attend. The room was filled and I was very pleased with our guest speaker, attorney Bill Whiteacre. Ive known him for a long time and appreciate his great advice for us. Bill plays guitar, sings, and dabbles in writing too. I hope hell be coming back to our meeting. Several of you have called saying good things about him. Ralph Betancourt, a long-time member and former mayor of Daytona Beach Shores, was present too. Because of his duties as mayor, we havent seen him much lately. It was good to see Ralph again, and to hear his patriotic song We Salute the United Nations that is getting attention in Washington D.C. and New York City. It was obvious from the recording that many hours of work that went in to the song. Lets hope it will be adopted by the U.N. as their theme song. Good luck, Ralph! Yow! We had some great songs to critique. Well learn elsewhere in the newsletter which songs made the Top 5. I think its going to be close. They all sounded like winners to me. I look forward to hearing your endeavors each month.keep them coming! Later in this newsletter youll find information regarding our evening cruise (perhaps 2 cruises?). Hope to see you all at the meeting Sunday. Russ Robinson Birthday Cruise by Russ Robinson I guess weve picked Friday, August 2nd, for our Birthday trip since a bus will come to Orlando and pick us up (and bring us back afterward). Some of us are also planning to go on the following day as well, but the bus doesnt run Saturdays so youll need to drive yourself. The evening will be funful, with free food and drinks and a show in the lounge. Our own Bob Neace is the emcee of the show and does an act himself. The other part of the show will have their Frank Sinatra look-and-sound-alike, plus live music and dancing. And everything is free. As you may have heard, this party is for my 76th birthday. Please, no gifts. Youre being there is my gift! I hope all of you will be there. If you cant catch the bus, just drive over (free parking at the terminal). The trip takes about 45 minutes from 436 if you go over on the BeeLine. Stay on the BeeLine all the way to the end and follow the signs. youll see the boat, 7 stories tall, on your left. I think you need to be there by 6:15 PM. You will need to make advance reservations; call 1-800-765-5711. Once youre there, show a photo ID. I hope all of you will come!
