GRAPHICS (9.5)
In terms of quality, FF9 has great graphics. The CG movies, the environment, the characters and enemies are, as usual, highly detailed and simply great. However, I did not like FF9's graphical theme. Most of the characters in the game have big heads and their arms are unproportional to their bodies. Why weren't the characters drawn like the characters in FF8? Squaresoft maybe did so so that the characters could fit in with FF9's more humoristic storyline. Anyways besides that, FF9 does well in this catergory.
SOUND/MUSIC (9.3)
Not only did the graphics went to "old-school," but also the music. You will find this to be true when you hear the battle music. Fortunately, unlike the graphics, it was a good thing. FF9 carries another masterpiece made by Nobuo Uematsu. Also to cut things short, the sound FF9 provides is just as great.
CONTROL (9.5)
Players would not notice anything wrong with FF9's control. Controls are responsive and the button configs are user friendly. Also, some would not notice that FF9 actually uses dual shock! For those who don't know, dual shock capability means that people who own a dual shock analog control would experience a rumbling sensation when they play. In this case, players would feel the rumbleing during FF9's FMV's (full motion videos). Nice addition Squaresoft!
CONCLUSION (9.3)
The last Final Fantasy for the Playstation turns out to be one of the best of the FF series. Surely, FF fans and other gamers would enjoy having this game as part of their collection, even though some might complain about its "old-school" theme. |
