Oh my gosh! Another Duke game for the N64! Is this game better than PSX version Duke Time to Kill?
Well, not surprisingly, the aliens are invading the earth once again and stealing the...umm chicks. The military are fighting them (finally) and Duke is called to help. After kicking some alien scum, Duke and the military finds out that the aliens are using time travel to alter human history. Duke's job is to go back in time, using the military's time machine, and prevent their evil plans. Basically it's just like Duke 3D, except in 3rd person view (you can see Duke now). All you do is kill aliens with a wide range of weapons (each from different time zones), save some babes, and sometimes solve some puzzles..well kind of. You could climb, jump, swim (the basic movements of a typical shooter). I had buckets of fun shooting those overgrown lizards and armed pigs using "army tactics" (using walls for cover, using grenade lauchers and cyanide gas to pick off enemies behind corners, using a sniper gun to shoot unsuspecting enemies, etc.). I especially had fun playing in multi-player mode. A bunch of levels to duke it out, all kinds of weapons together with four players equals fun, fun, fun! Ya know, though, it could of been better if you could choose to play in 3rd person view. The only problem I had with the gameplay was that...it's too difficult. The levels are so long and because of that, you'll get frustrated when you died and have to start all over. I remember one time when I was almost in the process of completeing a long level, when I got shot by snipers who appeared out of nowhere! I had full health that time too! I got so frustrated that I didn't play the game until the evening of the next day! The sound/music was pretty good in the game. Duke's voice when he says those hilarious liners is pretty clear, the enemies' voices sound believeable, gun fire and explosions sound real enough etc. The background music is much approved since Duke 64. I especially like the electric guitar background music. It makes you wanna kick some ass! The control in this game is pretty responsive. You won't really have any complaints. When you choose you control settings though, I suggest you use the "Duke" type. You'll need the analog stick for aiming. This game, Duke Zero Hour, is not exactly a gotta get kind of game. Buy this game if you're a Duke fan, you like multi-player games, and if you have money to spend. Otherwise, just add this game to your rental list. |
