In 2002 mom started having the feeling that something just didn't feel right. We encouraged her to see a doctor. After all.... she'd been so healthy all her life. She was a very active person, and did things like carpentry, roofing, shingling etc., along with her yard and fish. We weren't really worried.
She did make an appointment to see one. The results from the tests showed colon cancer, and that it was there approximately ten years! She was scheduled for surgery to remove a foot of her colon. She was then scheduled, everyday, for radiation and chemo treatments, that took place over the period of two months. It was very tiring on her. She made it through all this with flying colors? We certainly hoped...
She told us that it had taken alot out of her during this time, but she was very opimistic about everything. She took more and more naps. We figured that she just needed to recuperate, and let her sleep.
A year later, July 3, 2003 she made an appointment for her check-up. A cat scan showed her cancer hadn't receeded. By this time it had spread to her liver and lungs. Her doctor gave her two weeks to two months to live.
Through all this mom held a cheerful attitude and shocked people with her laugh- ter:-)What a strong woman to be able to do this. We suspect she was doing this to make it easier on us. We all got our "special" time with her one on one. We guess that makes us very lucky to be able to spend her last days with her.
We love and miss you more than words can say.
