Chapter 9

Brian and I set up a date for Saturday afternoon. He suggested that since I am such an animal lover, we head to the zoo and then go out to eat afterwards. There was absolutely no argument from me. He could have suggested dunking me in tar and then throw a bag of feathers on meas long as he was there, I would have been happy.

I was busy scampering around the house trying to make everything perfect for his arrival when the doorbell rang and I about jumped out of my skin. In the rush to get to the door, I tripped over one of my cats sleeping soundly in the middle of the floor and fell flat on my face. I guess hearing all the ruckus, he opened the door to see me on the floor laughing hysterically.

Do I even want to know? He asked as he stepped in.

Looking up at him through the tears in my eyes, I could do nothing but laugh harder. God, I must have looked like an idiot. Composing myself, I stood up and brushed myself off. Guess thats what I get for having so many pets. I keep telling them not to lay where my feet travel, but guess they dont listen.

Whoa! That thing is a horse! Brian said wide-eyed as my almost 200 pound Malamute came around the corner to see what all the commotion was about.

Yeah, but Silos just a big baby. I went over to the dog and scratched him behind the ears. I would have him outside with the others, but hes getting pretty old and would prefer to be indoors. And, he minds me well and doesnt attack the guests. Getting down on my knees, I kissed him on the nose and started talking baby talk to him.

Brian came over and gave him a pat on the head. Looking up at him, I asked So, ready to go?

Yep he said walking over to the door and opening it for me.

The day was perfect. Not only was Brian a perfect gentleman with opening doors for me and insisting upon paying for everything including the huge stuffed wolf I was going crazy over in the zoos gift shop, but he was very sweet and actually seemed to be interested in what I had to say. He laughed at me because when seeing that there were wolf pups in the wolf enclosure, I went ballistic calling for them to come to me and fell on my butt with excitement when they actually did. He even got down with me to talk to the pups in a baby voice while we both laughed hard because of the weird looks the other visitors were giving us.

He took me to a quaint little Italian restaurant in a suburb of Lexington. There wasnt many people there, but the food was absolutely delicious. At that time, we were able to talk and really get to know each other. We spoke of things that we went through during our childhood to the present time and the things we wanted to happen in the future while we waited for our meals, ate our meals, and then sat there drinking coffee for over three hours.

I was amazed the entire time of how normal he was. I really didnt know what I was expecting, but this wasnt it. He told me about how he invested his money, so I knew that he was quite wealthy, but yet he didnt act it. He didnt flash his money around to impress me and he was dressed in just a pair of jean shorts and an untucked baggy t-shirt. Even with the thought of him being an ex-Backstreet Boy out of my mind, I knew I could definitely fall for him.

Finally, he pulled into my drive way and the date was officially over. We got out and we walked me to my door. There were a few moments of that awkward silence that always happens at the end of the first date with me fiddling with my keys and him looking at anything and everything but me.

Feeling the need to end the silence, I looked up and him and said Well, Brian. I had a great time. Thank you for today.

No need to thank me mlady he said giving me a bow. Raising up, he looked at me for the first time since stepping onto my porch. Sothink we could do this again?

I could tell he was nervous with both hands jammed into his pockets and maneuvering from one foot to another and couldnt help but to smile. Definitely. Give me a call and well do something.

With butterflies in my stomach not really knowing what else to do, I reached out and gave him a hug. Parting from the hug, we looked into each others eyes and I was sure that he would kiss me. But instead, he broke away, turned, and walked to his car.

Before getting in, he looked up at me as I was entering the house. Is tomorrow too soon?

I turned around and smiled at him. Not at all.

He grinned from ear to ear. Tomorrow it is then. Bye.

Bye.

I walked into the house and shut the door, leaning up against it and then sliding to the floor. Silo came up to me nuzzling for affection, so I started to pet him. I sure wish that Jessica would call me or something so I can tell her what has been going on with me and Brian. But what is going on with us? Anything? Nothing? ARGH! This dating stuff is so confusing, isnt it?

Silo just looked at me with his big brown eyes not comprehending a thing I was saying just happy to have his head scratched. Finally, I got off the floor and went to bed.
