Chapter 4
The next few months were very hectic with the wedding planning. Jessica wanted me to be a part of everything and I savored every
moment of it. She was extremely tense and emotional and it took everything I had in me to try to keep her calm. She wanted
everything to be perfect and was running herself ragged to insure that it all would be.
I arrived at the rehearsal to see Jessica pacing the floor and nervously playing with her engagement ring. I approached her from
behind and she nearly jumped out of her skin when I touched her shoulder. Mom! Thank God you are here! She grabbed my hand and
pulled me to the wall. What am I doing? Am I ready for this? What if it doesnt work out? She was stammering off the questions
so fast that I could barely understand what she was saying.
Jessica, honey. Calm down. I was ready to burst out laughing at her and was trying hard to keep a serious look on my face.
She stopped talking and looked at me. But mom, what if
I put my hand to her mouth to shut her up. I just have three questions for you. Do you love Brandon?
She looked at me like I was nuts. Of course I do.
Does he love you?
She started to protest my questioning, but stopped when she saw that I was serious. Yes.
Do you want to spend the rest of your life with him?
She leaned up against the wall and smiled with a dreamy look covering her face. Oh yeah.
Then you are doing the right thing. Go with that feeling.
She gave me a hug. Thanks mom.
Anytime hun.
Come on, I want you to meet Brandons dad. His mom couldnt make it today, but will be here for the wedding tomorrow. Shes in
California right now filming a movie and could not get back to Kentucky until late tonight.
As she drug me to the front of the church, my eyes met with Kents and we both smiled at each other. Jessica stopped at a man who was
talking to the pastor.
Brian? He turned to her and gave her a hug.
Finally calmed down, huh?
She blushed and looked down at her feet. Well, my mom is to thank for that. Brian, Id like you to meet my mom, Lynn. Mom, this is
Brandons dad, Brian.
Brian smiled at me and held out his hand. Hello Lynn. You have a wonderful daughter here. Brandon really did a great job in picking a
winner.
I took his hand and smiled back. Thank you. Yes he did and Brandon is a great guy. Im sure they will be very happy together.
The pastor asked for everyones attention so that the rehearsal could begin. The rehearsal went without a glitch and afterwards we all
headed to our cars to head to the dinner. As I was unlocking my car door, Brian came up to me and asked if Id like to ride with him. I
accepted and we drove the way to the restaurant talking about our children. I couldnt help but to think that I recognized him from
someplace, but just could not place his face.
As we were walking up to the restaurant together, I could not help but to stare at him. I knew I knew him from someplace, but
where? This is going to sound like a stupid question, but do I know you from somewhere?
He looked at me and gave me a sheepish smile. I dont know, you might.
Before I could ask him what he meant by that, Jessica had my arm and was leading me to the table.
During dinner, I was sitting next to Kent and Brian was clear at the other side, so it was impossible for me to find out what he meant
by that comment. The food was great and most of the conversation revolved around Jessica and Brandons relationship. Although, I
couldnt keep my eyes off of Brian wondering where I have seen him before.
After dinner, Brandon and his friends jammed themselves in one of their cars and headed off to do the bachelor party thing. Jessica
and her friends had planned on doing something themselves and had invited me to go. I declined saying that I didnt want to attend my
only daughters wedding with dark circles under my eyes.
