Nuggets of gold from the children
On this page you will find little stories, tidbits, quotes, and other antidotes that the children in my class have said that I have gleaned understanding and knowledge from about life, God, and knowing oneself. I hope you are as blessed as I am by their insight and wisdom. :)
This being the first full week of school, I was speaking with the children about praying and that it really is just talking to God. This was right before lunch and we were getting ready to say our lunch time prayer. A little boy quickly spoke up and said: "Mrs Schaefer, I already know how to pray. Can I pray?" Not knowing this boy yet very well, I said, "of course". His prayer went on for about 15 minutes and the others were getting a little fidgety by then. But he finally drew the prayer to a close with these words... "And dear God, I ask you to grant me every wish that I will ever have for the rest of my life, FOREVER, amen." :)
Out of the mouths of babes comes so many blessings. This little guy and his faith! When did some of us loose it? And on the other hand, someone might read this little story and say "well, God is not a genie" And that is true, but He still loves to give us what we want because He loves us. Sometimes what we think we 'want' isn't always what we need and then we find ourselves 'wishing' we hadn't asked for that :)
Case in point: I never ask for patience any more, because when I have in the past, God puts situations in my life that cause me to have to BE patient. :)The thing I wanted was patience, the thing I got was a situation that demanded MORE patience.
