Dear Parents;

For the next 2 weeks we will be learning, talking, and studying the whole alphabet. We will be basing our unit on the book
CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM by John Archairbault. I have so many things planned and I just know the children are going to have fun!

One of the extensions of this unit is a math project. We will be collecting all kinds and sizes of band aids.
If you have a couple band aids that you would like to share with our class for this project, we would really appreciate them.

I also wondered if anyone might have coconuts around your yard that you might want to donate to our Discovery Center? If so, stop by and let me know. We will be exploring how they look, feel, smell, sound, and taste.

Our new Nursery Rhyme this week is "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". The children did so well on last week's "Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake", I look forward to teaching this one.

The Bible Story for this week is 'Adam & Eve' in the garden. I will be stressing the fact that God provided clothing for them even though they disobeyed. We will talk about how God wants us to obey so we can be safe. I will also discuss with the children that even though Adam & Eve disobeyed that God still loved them very much. And finally, when we do disobey, there are consequences for the choices that we make.

I hope that I am able to make a class 'Alphabet Book'. I plan to take pictures of the children making the letters of the Alphabet using their bodies. :)

Next week I am planning an 'Alphabet Scavenger Hunt'. I would love it if you could join us! There will be more information on this soon! It will probably be on Friday, Sept. 19.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Woertz (Sam's Mom) for taking pictures for a poster that we made to take to Wal-Mart to thank them for the $500 grant that they gave us this week!! The grant is one that I applied for this summer to be used toward our literacy program. If you're new to the island there are 2 Wal-Mart stores kinda close... Mililani and Kunia.

Thank you all for your support. I really love working with your children and look forward to getting to know them and you much better throughout the year.

Aloha,
Mrs. Schaefer
