Outside Looking In
All her life she had never known
Who her father was
The children mocked her for this fact
She let them just because

She never knew how anyone
Could do that to a child
How he had left her all alone
The thoughts just drove her wild

But then there were those certain days
When nothing really bothered her
She'd sit there on the Orphange steps
"He'll come back one day,  I'm sure

Her life was filled with comes and goes
As the 12 long years rolled by
She knew that no one wanted her
And often times she'd cry

Then one day they got a call
It was her they wanted to see
The man would come at 3 o'clock
She did not know who it could be

And then she saw his face
No one could have prepared this for her
Those few words he then said
"Please, come home with me my daughter"

He would take her back home
To his apartment in New Orleans
The 60 hour drive
Seemed to have time flying

And as they drove around the bend
Her home came into view
She takes one last look at her dad
Before traffic takes him to his doom

She looks up at the clouded sky
As her head pounds with pain
She turns to see her father's eyes
Staring at her through the pouring rain

The pain subsides a little more
As the ambulance takes her away
She knows she'll never see him again
And she regrets it to this very day

But then there were those certain days
When nothing really bothered her
She'd sit there on the Orphanage steps
"He'll come back one day, I'm sure"

How do you deal with your father's death?
These questions would always begin
Her every answer-"He's not dead"
"He's outside looking in"
